HeyVenues Visits: W London

Right in the heart of Leicester Square, the W London is exactly where you’d expect it to be, surrounded by the buzz of the West End, theatres, restaurants and constant energy. But what stood out straight away is how different it feels once you step inside.

We visited the hotel for a site visit and to meet the team, and from the moment we arrived, it felt calm, warm and welcoming. It’s a bit of a contrast to what’s happening just outside, in a good way.

First impressions

The overall feel of the hotel is modern and chic, but not in a way that feels cold or overly designed. It’s stylish but still comfortable, with a relaxed pace that makes it easy to settle in.

The team were welcoming from the start, which always makes a difference, and there’s a real sense that the space is designed to be enjoyed rather than just looked at.

The spaces

One of the biggest surprises was the size of the rooms. For a central London hotel, they’re genuinely spacious, which isn’t something you always find in this location.

The bar and restaurant areas are really versatile and can work for a range of event styles and sizes. Whether it’s a more relaxed drinks reception or something a bit more structured, the space adapts well.

A real standout is the screening room, which adds something a bit different and opens up options for more unique events.

What stood out

There’s a fun element to the hotel that doesn’t feel forced. It’s in the design, the layout and the overall atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you feel comfortable straight away, helped by a genuinely friendly team.

One detail that really stood out was the private bar at the far end of the main bar, with a giant disco ball overhead. It’s a great space for a private party and definitely gives that bit of a wow factor.

And worth mentioning, the cocktails were very good.

What it works well for

This is a really strong option for:

  • Parties and private celebrations
  • Private dining and drinks receptions
  • Corporate events that need a central, well-connected location

The tall windows bring in a lot of natural light and give views out over Soho and Leicester Square, which adds to the overall feel of the space.

For meetings or more focused sessions, there are good sized meeting rooms on the level above, which feel separate enough from the main bar and restaurant areas to avoid any noise or distraction.

Final thoughts

The W Hotel London manages to balance energy and calm in a way that works really well for events. You’re right in the middle of everything, but still have a space that feels considered, comfortable and easy to use.

It’s a great option if you’re looking for something central, modern and a bit more fun, without it feeling over the top.
